Role summary
The People's Manager owns GoCaby's people function end-to-end — hiring, onboarding, performance, engagement, and HR operations. You build the systems and culture that let a fast-growing team scale without breaking, and you act as a trusted partner to both leadership and staff. This role suits someone who is equally strong on people (empathy, culture, coaching) and on process (policy, compliance, HR systems).
Key responsibilities
- Own the full recruitment cycle: job posting, sourcing, screening, coordinating the scenario-survey stage, interviews, offers, and onboarding.
- Build and run onboarding so new hires are productive and engaged quickly.
- Design and manage the performance framework: goal-setting, KPI tracking, check-ins/1-on-1s, and reviews.
- Drive employee engagement, retention, and culture initiatives across teams.
- Develop and maintain HR policies, the employee handbook, and ensure compliance with Nigerian labour law.
- Manage HR operations: contracts, records, leave, attendance, and payroll inputs (in coordination with Finance).
- Handle employee relations, grievances, and disciplinary matters fairly and professionally.
- Support workforce planning and organisational design as the company scales.
- Track and report people metrics (headcount, attrition, time-to-hire, engagement) to leadership.
- Champion GoCaby's values and maintain a high-performance, people-first culture.
Requirements
- 3+ years in HR/people management, ideally including recruitment and HR operations.
- Solid knowledge of Nigerian labour law and HR best practices.
- Proven experience building or running hiring, onboarding, and performance processes.
- Strong interpersonal, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills, with sound judgment and discretion.
- Comfort with HR systems and data; able to track and report people metrics.
Nice to have
- HR certification (CIPM, SHRM, CIPD, or similar).
- Experience scaling teams in a startup or high-growth environment.
- Familiarity with ERPNext HR/Payroll or similar HRIS.
Success metrics (first 6 months)
