Role summary

The People's Manager owns GoCaby's people function end-to-end — hiring, onboarding, performance, engagement, and HR operations. You build the systems and culture that let a fast-growing team scale without breaking, and you act as a trusted partner to both leadership and staff. This role suits someone who is equally strong on people (empathy, culture, coaching) and on process (policy, compliance, HR systems).

Key responsibilities

  1. Own the full recruitment cycle: job posting, sourcing, screening, coordinating the scenario-survey stage, interviews, offers, and onboarding.
  2. Build and run onboarding so new hires are productive and engaged quickly.
  3. Design and manage the performance framework: goal-setting, KPI tracking, check-ins/1-on-1s, and reviews.
  4. Drive employee engagement, retention, and culture initiatives across teams.
  5. Develop and maintain HR policies, the employee handbook, and ensure compliance with Nigerian labour law.
  6. Manage HR operations: contracts, records, leave, attendance, and payroll inputs (in coordination with Finance).
  7. Handle employee relations, grievances, and disciplinary matters fairly and professionally.
  8. Support workforce planning and organisational design as the company scales.
  9. Track and report people metrics (headcount, attrition, time-to-hire, engagement) to leadership.
  10. Champion GoCaby's values and maintain a high-performance, people-first culture.

Requirements

  1. 3+ years in HR/people management, ideally including recruitment and HR operations.
  2. Solid knowledge of Nigerian labour law and HR best practices.
  3. Proven experience building or running hiring, onboarding, and performance processes.
  4. Strong interpersonal, coaching, and conflict-resolution skills, with sound judgment and discretion.
  5. Comfort with HR systems and data; able to track and report people metrics.

Nice to have

  1. HR certification (CIPM, SHRM, CIPD, or similar).
  2. Experience scaling teams in a startup or high-growth environment.
  3. Familiarity with ERPNext HR/Payroll or similar HRIS.
